GP Cycliste de Quebec: OPQS Aggressive in Final KMs

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team riders Dries Devenyns and Jerome Pineau both attempted to make something happen in the final 22km of the 201.6km circuit race GP Cycliste de Quebec on Friday.

Pineau attacked with 22.2km to go, and was able to say away with another rider until a few kilometers later. They were chasing a duo up the road at the time. Then, Dries Devenyns launched an attack with Chris Anker Sorensen (Saxo Bank - Tinkoff Bank), who was one of the two riders up the road when Pineau attacked, with a little more than 12km to go. Sorensen and Devenyns got as much as a 20" gap, but were also brought back with 4km to go.

In the end, It was Simon Gerrans (Orica-GreenEDGE) beating Greg Van Avermaet (BMC Racing Team) to the line for victory when the two were clinging to a small gap in the final meters. Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Cannondale) tried to give chase, but was unable to bridge. Rui Costa (Movistar) was 3rd. Gerald Ciolek was 9th for OPQS.

Martin Velits also tried to attack earlier in the stage.
