ROAD RACING BEGINS WITH A FAST CRITERIUM IN ADELAIDE

A late evening criterium in Adelaide, Australia kicked off the road racing season, and while no Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team riders finished in the top 10 of the Down Under Classic there was no shortage of excitement.

Andre Greipel (Lotto-Belisol) won the 30 lap, 51-km criterium, while Edvald Boasson Hagen (Team Sky) and Heinrich Haussler (Garmin-Barricuda) rounded out the podium for the Down Under Classic. Matteo Trentin was the only Omega Pharma - Quick Step Cycling Team rider mentioned during live coverage, as he appeared to make a break several laps into the race. That break was quickly absorbed, however. The criterium pace reached speeds of 60 km/hour, with sub two minute lap approximations.

The anticipation begins now for Stage 1 of Tour Down Under, a 149 km road race from Prospect to Clare, at 11 am CDT on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
