Tour of Oman Stage 2: Stybar 5th, Three OPQS Riders in Top 15
Tour of Oman Stage 2 featured a challenging final 25km, including KOMs Al Hamriya and Al Jissah. As the peloton reached the first KOM, a lone rider out of an original two rider break was caught. By the second KOM, the peloton was shattered. By the time the race approached the final, the peloton was down to 50 riders, the leader of the race Marcel Kittel (Argos-Shimano) was dropped, and a lead group had about 19" on the rest of the field.
OPQS, however, had Zdenek Stybar near the front with some of the top GC contenders. Peter Sagan (Cannondale) won the race solo and took over the leader's jersey. Tony Gallopin (Radioshack-Leopard) and Martin Elmiger (lAM Cycling) placed 2nd and 3rd. Stybar finished 5th.
OPQS riders Gianni Meersman and Stijn Vandenbergh were also in the mix of the top riders. Meersman finished 11th, and Vandenbergh 12th.
Stage 3 of Tour of Oman is a much flatter stage, with only one KOM — Bousher Alamrat. There are also two intermediate sprints, and the final kilometers are undulating.
