Tour of Turkey Stage 5: Too Much of a Gap

Tour of Turkey Stage 5: Too Much of a Gap

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team didn't get a chance to compete in the 170 km Stage 5 Tour of Turkey from Marmaris to Turgutreis on Thursday.

A six rider breakaway, consisting of Gruzdev (Astana), Jorgensen (Saxo), Duret (Bretagne), Di Corrado (Colnago), Cousin (Europcar), and Balloni (Farnese) attacked less than 20km into the stage and gained almost 15 minutes on the peloton at one point. The gap remained at more than three minutes when Jorgensen attacked the break, leading to a flurry of counters as each rider was reeled in. Di Corrado, however, attacked with 10km to go and was able to win with a gap of approximately 40 seconds on his former break mates.

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team moved to the front in the final kilometers to try and help chase, but the effort of the peloton was too late.
