Tour of Turkey Stage 6: Maes Top Finisher in Selcuk

Tour of Turkey Stage 6: Maes Top Finisher in Selcuk

Etixx - Quick-Step rider Nikolas Maes finished 50th in the 184km Selcuk summit finale of Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey Stage 6 on Friday, as the team rode at their own pace going into the Category 1 climb. The climb had an 8% average gradient inside about the final 5 kilometers of racing.

Pello Bilbao (Caja Rural - Seguros RGA) won the stage over Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana) as the two were up the road together until Bilbao launched with 100m to go to win. Heiner Rodrigo Parra (Caja Rural - Seguros RGA) was 3rd.

What was left of the peloton remained together all the way until Lopez attacked with 2.6km to go. Bilbao went on to join him in time to decide the finish together.

The original breakaway was caught with 22.3km to go in the stage.

Etixx - Quick-Step looks next to Stage 7 on Saturday. The 7th Stage includes a Category 2 and Category 1 climb at the 52.8km mark, as well as the 28.8km to go point. Due to the steepness of these two climbs this day could be a bit of a mixed bag, with a possibility of a breakaway staying away until the finish, or even a stage for a few sprinters if they are able to make it over the last of the two categorized climbs.
