Volta Algarve Stage 2: OPQS Leads Chase Again

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team continued to be in charge of the chasing at 195km Volta Algarve Stage 2, pulling back a breakaway that was reduced from 10 riders, with more than a 6'30" gap, to a few riders with a 34" gap in the final kilometers. As the peloton was back together inside the final 10km, OPQS was ready to try and deliver Mark Cavendish to victory.

However, Theo Bos (Blanco ProCycling Team) won the bunch sprint, with Giacomo Nizzolo (Radioshack-Leopard) placing 2nd and Bruno Sancho (Carmin-Prio) taking 3rd.

"We did another good job, almost perfect," Sports Director Tom Steels said. "Once again, our riders worked hard at the front to bring back the break and then put Mark Cavendish in position to get a win. Mark had a mechanical while he was preparing the sprint. These things happen. We did everything we could to get the best situation, and I am proud of the work we did today. We will keep trying for good results at Volta Algarve."
