Styby started off his season showing he is still at the top of the world in cyclocross, winning the UCI World Cyclocross Championship in Hoogerheide.  But his season also involved success on the road, including the Czech National Championship, and a victory at the 2nd stage of the Eneco Tour. He also earned a top five finish at Paris-Roubaix thanks to a strong performance and masterful race tactics of the team. But a bad crash toward the end of the season cut his ambitions slightly short. He was able to recover and participate in Binche-Chimay-Binche and win, but when he crashed in cyclocross, his 2014 season was immediately over. But 2014 was far from a bad year for Stybar, as he married his longtime girlfriend Ine. Two years ago Zdenek confirmed everyone’s high expectations for him.

After a brilliant career in cyclocross, Styby showed in 2013 that he is also a great rider on the road...at least when cobblestones are present. Believe it or not, all Styby’s victories on the road involved cobblestones. “Every race that I’ve won or where I’ve performed well has had cobbles. Even in the Vuelta stage there was about a kilometer of pavé. It’s probably a sign,” jokes Zdenek. “I don’t know why I’m so strong on those little stones—maybe it’s just a question of instinct.” Instinct or not, after an excellent first part of the season Zdenek was able to confirm his status at the Eneco Tour as well, winning two stages and the overall, and at the Vuelta, beating Gilbert in a close sprint. In 2015 Stybar hopes to focus on the road and build on the success he had not only in 2014, but also in 2013. In the little free time he has available, Styby never misses a chance to visit his beloved hometown of Stribro, where he has opened a small family-run hotel that is managed by his family.
