La Vuelta a España Stage 7: Rider Stays Away Solo in Alcaudete, Brambilla Top OPQS Finisher

OPQS rider Gianluca Brambilla finished 7th out of the peloton in the 169km La Vuelta a España Stage 7 medium mountain stage on Friday.

Alessandro De Marchi (Cannondale) won solo out of an original breakaway that split up within 15km to go in the stage, with one rider crashing and others simply being dropped. Hubert Dupont (AG2R - La Mondiale) was 2nd, Johann Tschopp (IAM Cycling) was 3rd.

The peloton was not satisfied to simply finish behind the original breakaway riders who decided the podium. Philippe Gilbert (BMC Racing Team) and Chris Froome (Team Sky) accelerated on the uncategorized uphill finish, causing a few seconds difference between some riders in the group.

OPQS kept Rigoberto Uran, leader in the GC, as close to the front as possible. Brambilla and Pieter Serry (16th place) helped guide him to the line to minimize seconds lost. Uran finished 22nd. He is now 13th in the GC (+1'21").

OPQS looks next to a flat stage on Saturday, which is 207km in distance.
