Tom Boonen Inspects the Worlds Course

Tom Boonen got a closer look at the World Championships course in Valkenberg on Wednesday, when he performed course reconnaissance with the Belgian Cycling Team, including Kevin De Weert and Dries Devenyns. Though Boonen is familiar with the course, he still felt it was necessary to get another feel for it.

"It's always important to have a look at the parcours even if the parcours is well known," Boonen said. "I am happy I did it. The last part It's the same parcours as the Amstel Gold Race."

Boonen said the course is difficult, but can be made much harder by environmental factors.

"With weather conditions, such as rain or wind, it will be more and more difficult," Boonen said. "It's really hard to begin with."

The course may favor Classics riders, according to Boonen.

"It's hard, but I think the parcours like that can be good for my possibilities," Boonen said. "I have to be 100 percent to compete on a parcours like that, but I am pretty confident I will be ready."

It will be an important race for Boonen, also, because of his inability to compete due to injuries.

"I am really looking forward to this appointment," Boonen said. "I couldn't take part in the last two worlds because of some injuries. Now I am really looking forward to being a part of this race."
