Tom Boonen Wins Heistse Pijl for Second Straight Year!
Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Tom Boonen won kermesse Heistse Pijl for the second straight year, bringing the total wins to 37 (35 road) for OPQS in 2014.Boonen has won six of those races.
Boonen beat Kenny Dehaes (Lotto-Belisol) and Jonas Vangenechten (Lotto-Belisol) after making a 20-rider breakaway.
"The group led the race after the 2nd lap out of 17, which were 10 kilometers each," Sport Director Wilfried Peeters said. "Out of the 20 riders we had Nikolas Maes, Julien Vermote, Niki Terpstra, Guillaume Van Keirsbulck, and Tom. They controlled the race until the end. In the final there was a small cobbled climb. Niki did a geat job preparing Tom for the sprint, and he was able to win out of a breakaway for the second consecutive year. it was a perfectly executed race for the team and we're happy with this victory."
