Tour de San Luis Stage 6: Brambilla Strong Again, Top 20 on Mirador del Sol

Tour de San Luis Stage 6: Brambilla Strong Again, Top 20 on Mirador del Sol

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Gianluca Brambilla showed his strength on the climbs for another summit finish of Tour de San Luis on Saturday. He placed 19th in the 166km Stage 6 from Las Chacras to Cat. 1 Mirador del Sol (7km, 8.75% average gradient).

A select group of less than 10 riders decided the stage in the final kilometers, but only a select group of 30 had a chance when the race came back together approaching the final climb. Brambilla was one of those riders.

Julian David Arredondo (Trek Factory Racing) won the stage as he outbattled Sergio Godoy (San Luis Somos Todos) and race leader Nairo Quintana (Movistar). Quintana remains the race leader going into the final 148.1km Stage 7 on Sunday.

The final stage leaves the possibility for a sprint, but it won't be easy. The parcours only has one categorized climb early in the race, but the profile is still undulating. The final 3km are slightly uphill, but the 2014 edition of Tour de San Luis has already proven with a similar finish that a bunch sprint is possible.
