Tour of Oman Stage 2: Reduced Group Sprint on Another Hot Day

The 195.5km Tour of Oman 2nd Stage on Wednesday came down to a reduced group of about 18 riders, after the peloton split up following the final climb of the stage, Al Jissah (1.4km, 9%), at kilometer 190. The peloton also had to pass Al Hamriyah (.8km, 9.8%) at kilometer 173. The original breakaway of the day of four riders was eventually down to three, but could not survive to the finish line on another day of high temperatures at Tour of Oman.

Fabian Cancellara (Trek Factory Racing) won out of the small group. Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) was 2nd, and Greg Van Avermaet (BMC Racing Team) was 3rd.

Etixx Quick-Step rider Tom Boonen was the top finisher, in 22nd place.

Etixx - Quick-Step looks next to 158.8km Stage 3. The stage in Al Mussanah Sports City is much flatter than Stage 2, with only two intermediate sprint sections to note between the start and finish.The finale is also flatter than the previous two stages.
