Serrytje’s second season with OPQS was a mixture of learning, and some impressive performances. The young Belgian earned a Top 10 finish at Tour of Beijing, and was also a protagonist at La Vuelta with two top 15 finishes. Pieter also proved he was a valuable supporter of Rigoberto Uran at the Giro d’Italia, for example escorting Rigo on the Cat 1 summit finish on Monte Zoncolan. Motivated and determined, “I always try to give everything, both in training and in races. My goal is to grow step by step. I like to find my limits and work to raise the bar. It motivates me.” Pieter loves the mountains, even though he admits, “Before the Under 23 Tour de Pyrenees you could say that I had never seen a real mountain. Then I discovered the Tourmalet, l’Aspin...and it was love at first sight!” Like it was with his girlfriend, Steffi, who accompanies him to races when she can. Pieter loves the cinema, especially action movies, and socializing. “It’s stronger than I am... Even when I go into a restaurant alone, I’m friends with everyone after a few minutes.” Just like on the team.

Pieter's news

Etixx - Quick-Step rider Pieter Serry was diagnosed with a fractured right collarbone when he was examined by team and medical staff at the Hospital Universitari in Girona on Wednesday. The injury was caused by a crash suffered during the 3rd stage of Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. Serry also needed three stitches for a wound above his right eye, as well as a stitch for a wound on his upper lip.

Etixx - Quick-Step riders Julian Alaphilippe and Pieter Serry made a 15-rider select group at 198km Classic Sud Ardèche, but it was Eduardo Sepulveda (Bretagne - Séché Environnement) who won the race, just a few seconds ahead of Julien Loubet (Team Marseille 13 KTM), and 10" ahead of Fabio Felline (Trek Factory Racing). Serry finished 7th out of the group including Felline.

The 174km Cadel Evans Great Ocean Race victory of Gianni Meersman was a combination of masterful tactics and a fantastic sprint by the Belgian rider in the one-day race in Geelong on Sunday.
