Vuelta: Gianni Meersman 4th in final stage
Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Gianni Meersman ended 4th in the 21st and final stage of La Vuelta a España.
The final stage finished after 109 kilometres in Madrid, where a bunch sprint was the final action of this Grand Tour. Michael Matthews (Orica - GreenEDGE) took the stage win, Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Sharp) and Niklas Arndt (Argos-Shimano) finished 2nd and 3rd. Meersman finished 4th, Guillaume van Keirsbulck was 22nd.
Chris Horner (Radioshack) secured the overall victory. Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) ended 2nd at 37". Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) was the number 3 of the general classification. Serge Pauwels was the best OPQS rider at a 31st place in the final overall.
