The first Le Tour de France high mountain stage, Stage 10 after the first rest day, included immediate fireworks. There are now significant time gaps between GC contenders. Chris Froome (Team Sky) won solo by attacking with 6.3km to go on HC La Pierre Saint-Martin (15.3 kilometers, 7.4% average gradient), a climb featured in Le Tour for the first time in its history (it was a descent in 2007) with several very steep slopes.

A select group of a little more than a dozen riders had already formed before Froome attacked, as many top GC competitors drifted off the back. Nairo Quintana (Movistar) tried to chase Froome alone into the final kilometers, but Richie Porte (Team Sky), who paced Froome up the climb before his teammate attacked to win the stage, caught up to Quintana and attacked him in the final meters to take 2nd, 59" down. Quintana crossed 1'04" down on Froome. Riders finished in small groups behind those three podium finishers.

Etixx - Quick-Step rider Rigoberto Uran finished 28th, 5 minutes and 54 seconds behind Froome.

Froome now holds a 2'52" advantage over Tejay van Garderen (BMC Racing Team) in the overall classification. Nairo Quintana is 3rd, 3'09" down on Froome. Uran is currently 12th overall (+7'22").

Etixx - Quick-Step looks next to 188km Stage 11, from Pau to Cauterets - Vallée de Saint-Savin.  A key moment will be HC Col du Tourmalet (17.1km, 7.3% average gradient) at the 147km mark. However, there is also three Category 3 climbs, a Category 4 climb, Category 1 Col d'Aspin at kilometer 117 (12km, 6.5% average gradient), and the finishing climb  Côte de Cauterets (Category 3, 6.4km, 5% average gradient).
