Michal, or just Goly, as everyone calls him, is one of the most important men on OPQS, standing out for his human qualities as well as his indisputable talents on the bike. In 2013 Goly was one of Mark Cavendish’s most valuable teammates in his victorious Giro sprints, performing a hidden but absolutely critical role. But Michal is also a courageous rider who is often on the attack, and he is the first Pole in history to wear the climber’s jersey at the Giro. In 2014 Golas again showed his value in the team, a 2nd place stage finish at Tour of Britain, as well as Classic Sud Ardeche. But he also was an important supporter for guys like his polish teammate, the new World Champion Michal Kwiatkowski. Goly lives with his family in Torun (Kwiatkowski comes from the same city). In addition to being a solid rider, Michal is also a businessman and runs a bicycle shop in his native city. He loves traditional Polish cooking and anything Italian. In 2015 Goly will once again be a valuable support player on the team.

Michal's news

Etixx - Quick-Step riders Michal Golas and Matteo Trentin went up the road on another long, hot day of Le Tour de France on Monday, on a day when the breakaway succeeded on the day before the rest day, 201km Stage 16 from Bourg-de-Péage to Gap. Ruben Plaza (Lampre-Merida) won solo, attacking after two leaders were caught on Cat 2 Col de Manse (8.9km, 5.6%). Plaza quickly gained a 28" advantage on nine chasers remaining out of a group as big as 23 riders earlier in the race.

You may have seen a selfless rider of Etixx – Quick-Step with Polish stripes on his sleeves, always on the front or working tirelessly for his teammates during key moments in the first week of Le Tour de France. That rider is Michal Golas, who yet again represented his team well by entering into an escape group in the 8th stage of Le Tour.

Michal talks about his experience as a domestique for Etixx – Quick-Step in the following blog.

Etixx - Quick-Step rider Michal Golas was part of a 17 rider chase group that went away after the intermediate sprint of 181.5km Tour de France Stage 8 on Saturday, and the Polish rider was able to stay up the road until 7.9km remained in the stage.
