Nikolas caught the cycling bug when he was 11, when he saw the riders in the Ronde van Vlaanderen pass through the streets of his hometown. Now he is one of the diehards on the team. A versatile rider who is just as at home on the northern cobblestones as he is on the roads of the major tours, Nikolas is a fantastic team player who has splendidly launched Tom Boonen to some of his most celebrated victories. He’s passionate about “everything that’s business.” In 2013 Nikolas, in addition to supporting the team, also won a great victory in the World Port Classics, a two-stage race in Belgium and the Netherlands that is perfect for his talents as a rouleur and man of the north. In 2014 Maes found a place on the Tour of Beijing Stage 3 podium, and had a top 5 finish in the first stage. He also finished amongst the first five riders in Halle Ingooigem. In 2015 Nikolas will again be among the key players on the team.

Nikolas's news

Etixx - Quick-Step dominated 196.1km Ronde van Zeeland Seaports on Saturday. Niki Terpstra, Iljo Keisse, and Lukasz Wisniowski left no doubt about their intent to go 1-2-3, when the Etixx - Quick-Step trio attacked out of a big group with 100 kilometers to go. They built a 1'50" advantage over about 15 riders left chasing, including their own teammates Guillaume Van Keirsbulck, Nikolas Maes, Matteo Trentin, and Yves Lampaert, with 70 kilometers remaining.

Etixx - Quick-Step rider Nikolas Maes finished 10th in the 197.7km Nokere Koerse - Daniluth Classic, a one-day race held in Belgium on Wednesday.

OPQS showed itself again during the third stage of the Tour of Beijing. Julian Alaphilippe and Michal Golas were in the days breakaway, in which Golas took the mountain jersey. The stage finished in a bunch sprint where Nikolas Maes finished 3rd.
