Etixx - Quick-Step rider Petr Vakoc shook up the finale of the 166km 3rd Stage of Tour de Pologne, from Zawiercie to Katowice, on Tuesday, attacking with 1.1km to go and forcing disorganization in the peloton in a predicted bunch sprint finish. Vakoc was caught before the sprint was launched, but gaps initially formed in the field, and teams were unable to maintain much control on the front with the high speed created by the chase.

Petr is starting his second year with the team after gaining important experience with Etixx-Ihned, the Etixx – Quick-Step Continental team, and then joining the UCI WorldTour organization. Despite only being only one year professional, Vakoc shocked the pro peloton with a fantastically timed attack in Tour de Pologne Stage 2, which earned him a victory. He also took silver in the Czech National Road Championship, behind Etixx – Quick-Step teammate Zdenek Stybar. Due to his strong performances during the season he was selected as a reserve for the UCI World TTT Championship team and to ride the UCI World TT Championship for the Czech Republic. Petr lives in Prague with his family. He started riding at 10 years of age, following in his father’s footsteps. At 15 he joined the Dukla Praha team and started racing on the road. His experience as a young rider also includes time at the UCI World Cycling Center and a year with a French amateur team. In the winter he likes to play ice hockey and cross-country ski. “Like cycling, cross-country skiing lets me come in contact with nature and discover new places,” explains Petr, who is also studying economics at the University of Prague. Petr loves books and especially biographies of great men and sports champions. “Those books inspire me,” he says. Petr is a young entrepreneur as well. Together with his brother he launched the website www.velobooks.cz, that sells books about cycling in their original language.

Etixx - Quick-Step riders participated in eight different National Road Championships on Sunday, with half of those races ending in a victory or a silver medal.
Etixx - Quick-Step rider Tony Martin dominated the 45km German National Time Trial Championship on Friday, winning his 5th gold medal in the event with a time of 52 minutes and 10 seconds (51.74km/h). Martin, also a three-time UCI World Champion, was 2'10" faster than 2nd place finisher Nikias Arndt, and 2'58" faster than Stefan Schumacher.
