Mountains have always been a part of Rigoberto’s life. Second at the Giro d’Italia in 2013 and 2014, he was born in Colombia at almost 2,000 meters elevation and loves to train on his home roads near Medellin, riding long climbs of 2,000 to 2,500 meters. “Spectacular scenery! When I train I love to look around; it’s a sort of mental yoga,” says Rigoberto. When he is in Europe he lives in Italy - Brescia, to be precise - where he has many friends and a very special second family. “When I crashed at the Deutschland Tour in 2007 I broke a lot of bones and they were there for me,” he says. “I also have a fan club with about 70 members in Brescia.”

Rigoberto first started riding thanks to his father. At 14 years of age he discovered his talent, winning his first race, a time trial. “I didn’t even have racing equipment and clothing,” Rigoberto recalls, “but from that day my life changed.” After a series of good results, Rigo exploded on the scene in the last Giro d’Italia, where in addition to two second places overall he claimed a splendid victory on the Altopiano del Montasio in 2013, and the beautiful ITT performance in the 12th stage of 2014 (Barbaresco to Barolo) . “These successesgave me a lot of confidence and repaid me for all the hard work. Now I’m looking to the future with peace of mind, ready to climb new mountains while representing my team and my country.”

A time trial is probably the purest form of cycling you can imagine. Just the rider and his bike fighting the course and the elements. Yesterday was not an exception to that: Climbs, fast flat parts, wind, rain, and slippery descents. If the legs …
