Yves Lampaert became a cyclist at the age of 17. After 11 years of judo, he earned his black belt and wanted to do something different. His cousin was a good cyclist at the time, and he decided to follow in his footsteps.. “Cycling is a hard sport, and I like to be on the road and see a lot of things while working. Also, the Classics are not far from my home, which makes me love them even more. I love to ride on the cobbles.” Lampaert is a son of a farmer, which helped develop a love for nature. His nickname is “The Bull from Ingelmunster”/"de Stier van Ingelmunster" to his hometown friends due to his riding style. His closest friend on Etixx – Quick-Step, Pieter Serry, said he is also called “Lampy.”

Lampaert's rider history includes a year on the previous development team of Etixx – Quick-Step, EFC, in 2012. He then came to Etixx – Quick-Step after two years riding for Topsport Vlaanderen -  Baloise. “Last year I had some good results, including four victories, and some top finishes. I am thankful for that experience and am ready for the next step.”  It still hasn’t quite hit Lampaert that he is now on Etixx – Quick-Step, a team well known for its Classics domination. “It’s pretty special that I am at the table eating with all these champions. I am proud to be a member of the team and I am looking forward to contributing.”

Yves's news

Etixx - Quick-Step riders Yves Lampaert and Guillaume Van Keirsbulck finished just 1 second apart, in 8th and 9th place, at the 6.85km Baloise Belgium Tour Prologue in Bornem on Wednesday.

Etixx - Quick-Step rider Zdenek Stybar finished 2nd in a seven-rider velodrome sprint at 253km Paris-Roubaix on Sunday, as he was led into the velodrome by teammate Yves Lampaert, but John Degenkolb (Giant-Alpecin) was able to come around Stybar on the front for the victory. Greg Van Avermaet (BMC Racing Team) was 3rd.

Etixx - Quick-Step has announced the selection that will participate in legendary Northern Classic, Ronde van Vlaanderen on Sunday. There are 19 Belgian climbs (Hellingen) in De Ronde, which starts in Brugge and ends in Oudenaarde after 264.9km. The most notable hellingen are at least partially cobbled and will be a factor in the final kilometers. The Koppenberg is climbed once with 45km to go and includes a max ramp of 22 percent. It was moved to later in the race in 2015, which gives riders less of a chance to recover before the next key climbs. The Oude Kwaremont (2.2km, 4.2% average gradient) is climbed at 153km to go, 53km remaining, and 17km to go. Finally, the Paterberg, only 400m in total distance but challenging nonetheless with its cobbled and steep characteristics, is ascended twice at 52km to go and 14km remaining.
