Matteo loves the Classics, and last year he won the final one-day event of the season, Paris-Tours, after being one of the main protagonists all day long. At the finish, he had more reasons to smile, as he received the prestigious Ruban Jaune, awarded to the rider who records the fastest average speed in a race longer than 200 kilometers. Paris-Tours was his fourth success of the year, after previously winning two stages in the Tour du Poitou Charentes and one in the Tour of Britain.
In 2016, Matteo – the most Flemish of the team’s foreign riders – would like to keep getting better and feature in the finale of Paris-Roubaix or the Tour of Flanders, the two Classics he loves so much: “I want to be more at the front, finishing in the top positions and prove that I can have a go one day in these races. Flanders and Roubaix are two great Classics and for the rest of my career I will try to win one of them.”
